Gratitude Attitude!

Gratitude seems to be the “in” thing these days. We’re encouraged to list the things that we are thankful for in a gratitude journal. Then, the GratiDudes, Matthew Ashdown and Brad Morris, created a “Gratitude dance.” This is great! The world needs more people with an attitude of gratitude.

But what if there is more to gratitude than being thankful for the positive things in my life? When I first think of gratitude, I think about being thankful for the things or people that I already have in my life.

But can I be thankful for the challenges I experience? Can I be grateful for my failures? Can I be thankful for people who have the things that I desire? There is a simple answer to all these questions and more: “YES!”

Try this great Gratitude Dance while you ponder what this involves.

I completely agree! I think listing all the obvious things to be grateful for is a wonderful exercise, but I think the most growth and development occurs when we dig deep and look at the “not-so-obvious” things. The mistakes, failures, and bad days are great times to build that gratitude muscle. Take some good from the bad and make it better. I know that’s how I try to look at everything in my life.

    In gratitude,

  2. Yes, Jeasy, a resounding YES! About 3 years ago I had an experience that many would label as bad. In the midst of dealing with the shock, I mentally asked Abraham how I was *possibly* expected to feel good about this situation. The answer I got: Look for and focus on the blessings.

Right then, I sat down and made a list of blessings about this ‘bad’ situation. I started laughing when I saw the 7-8 items and realized what a BLESSING this experience really was! From there, I felt light and happy thinking and talking about it. Within hours, the ‘bad’ situation morphed into the blessing I was willing to see.

Last year, I sat down and wrote a blog post about looking for blessings in everything (be sure to watch the video which TRULY defines gratitude in the face of challenge!): http://www.affirmingspirit.com/blog/2008/11/everything-you-experienceis-a-blessing/

    Many *blessings*,

  4. Jeasy, I am glad you did a note on this video on subject. I believe that gratitude like every other feel and thing should resonate with YOU. There is always so much to be grateful, but one of the things I am personally most thankful for is the hardships and challenges I have faced. I am also thankful for the people who have what I want because they teach me a lot through their example. I see where I am and how far I have yet to go.

    Thank you!
